Description
Jaffna, Sri Lanka - February 17, 2017: A statue of Hindu goddess Saraswati on a lotus flower at the main entrance roundabout of the restored Jaffna Public Library building in Jaffna city, Sri Lanka. The deity symbolizes learning in Hinduism. The colonial era Jaffna Public library was first built in 1933 and expanded in 1959. It was burnt down in 1981 with many valuable and historic Tamil artifacts and documents destroyed. It was rebuilt and opened to the public again in 2001.
